Reasons to Remove A Tree

Reasons To Have a Tree Removed

There are many different reasons that you may ultimately have to have a tree removed from your property.  Sometimes the decision to remove a tree may be because you have to remove the tree for safety reasons, or to avoid potential property damage to either your property or to a neighbor’s property.  Other times it may be a more difficult decision because while there is no imminent threat of damage or danger, it may be because the tree is old or decaying and it could be more costly or damaging to keep the tree in place.

Often, it is difficult because the tree has become such a familiar part of your landscape, that you can’t even imagine what your property would look like without the tree.  In many cases you must consider the future of your yard or landscape, and decide to proceed.  We understand that most trees are beautiful, add shade to your yard or property, attract wildlife, and can just be an important part of the landscape.  Many property owners become very attached to the trees and making the decision to remove those trees can be a very difficult decision.

However, we also know that when trees begin to get old, start to decay, or become infected, it can actually be very detrimental and can be much more harm than its worth.  We recommend the removal of a dying or dead tree as soon as you are aware of the situation.  By putting it off, it can become more difficult and dangerous to remove the tree from your property.

Again, there are some obvious reasons to remove a tree from your property.  Those include:

  • A tree that is dead.  As soon as you become aware that a tree is dead, we recommend you either remove it or have it removed immediately.

  • An unhealthy tree.  We recommend that you check on your trees regularly.  Take notice if the top f the tree or the branches are dying, or if the trunk of the tree is showing signs of decay.  If so, it is in your best interest to begin the removal process.

  • A tree growing too close to power lines.  In many cases if a tree is beginning to come in contact or is close to coming in contact with power lines, your power company will remove only the tree branches in proximity of the power lines at no charge.  However, if additional tree trimming or removal is needed, that responsibility will be yours as the property owner.

  • A tree growing too close to your house, garage, barn, or other structures.  This also includes the roots of the tree.

  • Storm Damage.  If a tree is damaged in a storm and it is damaged beyond repair, the tree should be removed as soon as possible to eliminate any additional potential damage.

  • A tree that is leaning in a dangerous direction.  If you notice your tree is leaning significantly, you should check to see how solid the tree is, or if it is dying.  If it is dying you should remove the tree as quickly as possible.

  • A tree that drops troublesome leaves or needles, sap, cotton, seeds, or branches.  This can become bothersome and can lead to a situation that it’s best to remove the tree.

  • A tree that is blocking your views or is causing too much shade.  Trees can grow very large and sometimes that can result in the shade causing your lawn not to grow.

  • A tree that may be in the way of future landscape renovations.

Unfortunately, there are also some reasons that might not be quite as obvious that a tree needs to be removed.  Again, we recommend that you check on your trees on a regular basis.  This preventative measure can eliminate potential issues down the road.  Some not-so-obvious reasons a tree should be removed from your property include:

  • The tree has substantial structural problems, such as decay to the tree interior.  If a tree is suffering from internal decay, it cannot support itself.  To handle natural stress, the tree trunk will expand into a bulge, which makes it easy to detect internal decay.  Also if a tree has dying branches, it is a good sign of internal decay.

  • There are cracks in the main trunk or leaders.  This can also be a sign of tree decay.

  • The tree is too large for its location, and if left to grow, could result in falling branches which could result in injuries.

  • The tree is in the way of future construction and could be severally damaged by heavy equipment involved in the construction

  • A disease or insect infestation could eventually cause your tree to die or could cause that disease to spread to other trees on your property.

  1. There is tree crowding on your property.

In some cases you can remove a dying tree on your own.  However, that is not always possible or safe.  A professional tree service has an understanding of many different situations, tree species, and has been trained in the most efficient, effective and safe way to remove a
tree.
